ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Aamir Liaqat was issued a contempt of court by the Supreme Court (SC) for not complying with the court’s order of not engaging in hate speech.
A private channel submitted a petition which was heard by a three-member bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar.
An apex court had directed Liaqat to not use hate speech on March 6, 2017 and this directive was breached, claims the petitioner.
CJP remarked, “This drama will not run in the court. Everyone has to talk here with respect. I am issuing you a notice for telling lie. Those who do not have control on their tongue should not be allowed in parliament. What sort of language is used to increase the rating of programme. We want peace in this country. You started a movement against the same media group where you were a former employee.”
Aamir Liaqat, who was recently elected to the National Assembly, was also recently fined for a court absence.
