Nikki Haley, the US envoy to the U
nited Nations, said on Thursday her country is urging Pa
kistan ‘more strongly’ not to gi
ve safe haven to terrorists.
She said Pakista
n has been cooperating with the U
nited States, but Washington cannot accept any government protecting terrorists. “We are communicating this message to Pa
kistan more strongly than in the past and we hop
e to see changes,” Haley told members of the Observer Research Foundation, an Indian think tank. Pa
kistan’s cooperation is seen as key to the success of President Donald Trump’s Afghanistan policy. The country is under pressure from Washington and the Afghan government who accused it of offering safe haven to militants blamed for attacks in Afghanistan, a charge Islamabad denies. Pa
kistan also insists its influence over the Taliba
n has been exaggerated.
