KARACHI: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) on Thursday announced to support the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate for the slot of opposition leader in Senate. The announcement came after a PTI delegation led by Imran Ismail visited MQM-P’s Bahadurabad office. Addressing the media alongside Imran Ismail and Senator Azam Swati, MQM-P’s Faisal Sabzwari said that even though the party respects Sherry Rehman, they cannot support a Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) candidate for the opposition leader in Senate. “We voted for Balochistan’s candidate in election for Senate top slots. It was easy to support PML-N and PTI for the posts of Senate chairman and deputy chairman. Saleem Mandviwala is a resident of Karachi but due to association with PPP, we did not vote for him,” he said, adding that the PPP had destroyed Sindh in last 10 years. PTI’s Imran Ismail told the media they had come to seek MQM-P’s support for their candidate for the slot of opposition leader in the Upper House. “We have spoken to different political parties and we have the numbers for it,” he said, and informed the media that the party will formally announce its nominee on Friday (today). Days after PPP and PTI joined hands to elect their Senate chairman and deputy chairman, they are now competing against each other to grab the slot of the opposition leader in the Upper House.
