ISLAMABAD: Jamiat Ulama-e-Islam Fazal (JUI-F) Senator Hafiz Hamdullah had been granted an interim bail by a local court in Islamabad on Thursday till June 23 in a case of verbal assault on rights activist Marvi Sirmed in a TV talk show.
Sources said that the Senator appeared before the additional sessions judge Raja Asif Mehmood and filed a bail petition while pleading not guilty.The court ordered Hamdullah to submit a surety bond of Rs 30,000 and directed the officials of Kohsar police station to appear before the court and submit the record on June 23.
A case was registered against Hamdullah for allegedly threatening and manhandling Marvi in a television show. A fiery exchange of arguments took place between Marvi and Hamdullah during the recording of a programme which was recorded to be aired on a private news channel. Marvi accused Hamdullah of abusing her with “worst possible expletives” during a TV programme regarding honor killings aired on June 10.The incident also caused outrage on social media and drew severe condemnations from political leaders, journalists and rights defenders.
